STAGES OF GUM DISEASE
1. GINGIVITIS
Gingivitis is an early, mild form of gum disease which, if left untreated, can lead to the much more serious condition known as periodontitis. Gingivitis causes irritation, redness and swelling of the gums, although there may be no discomfort at this stage. Gingivitis is reversible and can be prevented with professional treatment and good oral home care.
2. PERIODONTITIS
Untreated gingivitis can advance to periodontitis. Periodontitis is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and destroys the bone supporting your teeth. Periodontitis can cause teeth to loosen and lead to tooth loss.
