Bacteria are considered to be one of the causes of periodontal disease, pyorrhea, and gingivitis. They stimulate an auto immune response. The bacteria do not destroy the gum tissue and bone around the teeth, the body does! It seems strange to think a person's own defense system causes the breakdown associated with damage to the gum tissue and supporting bone. But that is what really happens.
Destructive toxins produced by oral bacteria can penetrate into the gum tissue and trigger an auto immune response ultimately destroying the gum tissues and bone supporting the teeth. If the immune system is only mildly stimulated by the infectious bacteria, the tissues and bone remain intact. When the immune system reacts with a vigorous defense, the gingival tissues and the bone supporting the teeth are affected and eventually destroyed.
Pyorrhea is a bacterial infection of the gum tissues in which pockets of pus form about the teeth, the gums shrink and the teeth become loose. Today, we know pyorrhea as periodontal disease. It is an infection which can move from tooth to tooth. Pyorrhea is a medical problem. Children seem to have a more supportive immune system but adults are very prone to tissue damage from infectious oral bacteria. It is interesting to note pyorrhea can spread from one person to another if the immune system of another person reacts to the transfer of infectious bacteria (for example through kissing.)
OUR GOAL IS TO STOP THIS INFECTIOUS DISEASE . In the past we have relied upon mechanical scraping of the gums and teeth and the surgical removal of infected tissue. This has not stopped the infectious process. Today, seventy-five percent of adults still suffer from some degree of periodontal disease.
Today
We have nonsurgical methods which can help you avoid the ravages of pyorrhea and the eventual loss of teeth. A group of dental colleagues have developed an oral irrigant which is bactericidal. This has stopped infection for many of our patients. With excellent oral hygiene and regular dental supervision and care, it is possible to retain and even improve the condition of the teeth and surrounding support structures. Now we can better help individuals who, unfortunately, have not responded adequately to the usual, ordinary and common care.
Exxcl Oral Blue
Exxcl Oral Blue is this oral irrigant. It is an effective agent in the process of stopping your oral infection. Irrigation allows your oral tissues to heal. As the infectious bacteria are reduced, dental plaque becomes less damaging to the teeth and soft tissues. Dental decay is reduced and serious gum disease avoided or controlled in a more successful way.
Diagnostic Therapy
Diagnostic therapy is the topical application of Exxcl Oral Blue. This topical application to gingival infections allows us to determine whether your immune system will respond positively to this therapy. Most people show improved tissue health within 72 hours.
Treatment Therapy
For the patients who respond to Diagnostic Therapy, we can provide a comfortable, therapeutic procedure to assist with the healing process.
In Summary
If Diagnostic Therapy has been recommended for you, it is because you have signs and symptoms of gingivitis, pyorrhea or periodontal disease. These infections can lead to the deterioration of your soft tissues and supporting bone. In addition to tissue damage, loss of teeth, and your healthy smile, bacteria can enter your bloodstream (bacteremia) or infect another person.
Every patient who comes to our member for dental care gives us a reason to celebrate. Your freedom from oral disease and your excellent oral hygiene will reflect...
- A sense of well being
- Improved general health
- An attractive smile
Fifty years ago 75% of adults over 35 years of age had some degree of periodontal disease. Toothpaste and mouthwash were available but did not help.
Today
The incidence of periodontal disease still involves 75% of adults who have some degree of periodontal disease - mild, moderate, or severe.
New and improved toothpaste and new and improved mouthwash provide little help.
Our member doctors have gentle, healing solutions which work well to stop these periodontal infections.
