There are a number of commercially available products which are specifically designed to temper the effects of xerostomia, including toothpaste, mouthwash, lozenges, gum, etc. Their main purpose is to stimulate increased saliva production which, to a certain extent, they do. However since they have no continuous delivery system they are often inadequate and frustrating because they fall short of the desired level of relief for individuals suffering from moderate to severe xerostomia. In our office, we have gentle and comfortable therapies which work well for many patients to alleviate the symptoms of xerostomia and the resultant infections and diseases. |
